George will seek reassurance from Ministers on Economic Aid Budget

13.07.2010  Andrew George MP has spoken to both Business and Treasury Ministers regarding concerns that the Economic Aid Budget which supports the European Regional Development Programme in Cornwall has been cut from next year.

If true, this would cut hundreds of millions of pounds of investment from projects such as the Broadband roll-out, the next phase of the University of Cornwall, the Wave Hub Project and the Isles of Scilly ferry link.

“The Ministers I spoke to last night were unaware of this," said Mr George. "I am determined that there should be no de-railing of the good progress being made through Cornwall’s Regional Economic Programme.

“This aid is vital to Cornwall’s economic recovery and I will be pressing Ministers to offer reassurance ahead of the announcement on the Comprehensive Spending Review on the 20th October this year.”
