IRP Report on Cancer Surgery move out tomorrow

20/07/2010

The report by the Independent Reconfiguration Panel, who were instructed by the previous Secretary of State for Health to undertake an inquiry into the decision of the Primary Care Trust to move Upper Gastro-Intestinal cancer surgery from Treliske to Plymouth, will be published tomorrow morning.

Local MP, Andrew George, will be on hand to comment on the report as it’s published. Mr George has been deeply involved in discussions and negotiations regarding the planned move of cancer surgery from Cornwall and met the previous Secretary of State and Health Ministers to encourage them to open an inquiry into the decision to move the service out of the county.

Mr George has also met Veritas, the private company commissioned by the Department of Health to investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspension of the former Chief Executive of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, John Watkinson, following his and his Board’s response to the proposed move.

Mr George and his Parliamentary colleagues will be sent a copy of the IRP report at the same time as others. Indeed, they have maintained a close watching brief and discussed some of the issues with Health Ministers prior to its publication.
